Dawn Rays was taken in Madeira in October 2010.

The dramatic rays radiating from the sun behind the cloud evoke a sense of awe and unfolding drama. The dark clouds at the top of the picture really were that colour and provide a balance to the darkness of the sea.

The dominant colour is clearly the orange of the sunrise but patches of turquoise also creep in on either side above the middle cloud formation.
