I'm Peter Walmsley, a travel photographer based in Surrey, England. I photograph the geography and culture of places off the usual tourist trails and speak about travel and travel photography to cruise ship audiences, camera clubs and other local communities. I sell the best of my work as fine art prints and after living in Delhi for 2 years, published 'A Picture of India'. Evocation Images is my trading name.
The image above was the winning image in the 'Colours of Life' category in the 2020 Travel Photographer of the Year competition. It was taken at the Krishna Rajendra Market in Bengaluru (Bangalore), home of one of the largest flower markets in Asia. Since then I occasionally enter other competitions and was the winner of a guest competition with Holland America in 2025 with this image of Osorno Volcano in Chile; the winner of the 'People & Culture' category in the 2025 competition with The Wandering Lens; and winner of the 2026 'People and Portraits' category in the 'Boundless' competition for UK public sector staff.
I spend quite a few months of each year travelling and try to provide a gallery of images which best represent each location, accompanied by a blog of travel commentary. The aim is to create interest in and curiosity about a place - so that others might consider a visit. Recent blogs (with gallery links) have included a 7 day road trip around Tasmania; Ireland; Iceland; and The Faroes.
Occasionally, I will provide longer articles on travel and travel photography subjects. Following a road trip earlier in the year to southern Germany and Austria (via France and Belgium) in a new electric car, we learned a lot about EV (Electric Vehicle) charging which I am pleased to share.
