Sailing around New Zealand
I'm out at the moment sailing around New Zealand giving talks on a cruise ship on travel (Maori culture) and travel photography (Ports of Call, New Zealand in a Campervan) and Landscapes of the South Island. Whilst it was a great view of Sydney harbour and the Opera House (see below), the weather subsequently was very bad with rough seas needing us to skip the port visit of Tauranga (for the Maori village in Rotorua). This was great shame as my cousin was all lined up to lead the excursion through her home territory. Nevertheless we continue now to the south island, calling at Picton, Christchurch and Dunedin. Evocation Images is moving up a notch and is now adding a free subscription facility. Those who sign up will receive notification of new travel photography content as well as tips, advice and articles on travel photography. As demonstrated in Peter's book 'A Picture of India' each image is not only accompanied by the context in which the picture was taken but also how it was taken in terms of researching the shot and interacting with the subjects as well as technical settings. The intention is to provide more of this information for selected travel images, but please bear with me: I'm still developing this!
Category Winner of the 2025 Wandering Lens Travel Photography Club Competition
Evocation Images is the 'People and Culture' joint category winner in the new annual Travel Photography Club competition organised by The Wandering Lens. Details can be seen here: Travel Photography Club 2025 competition winners
In its first year, the competition attracted over 1300 entries from around the world. The People & Culture category focuses on the human side of travel. From portraits to street scenes, festivals, and everyday life, it’s about capturing the essence of people and their cultural connections. Images could showcase traditions, rituals, community, or candid encounters that highlight the diversity and vibrancy of the world’s cultures.

Summer in Norway
We have now completed 3 cruises up the southern part of the Norwegian coast over the summer months June to September, covering towns including Bergen, Eidfjord, Haugesund, Ulvik, Vikoyri and Skjolden and the Hardanger, Mauranger, Lustra and Lyse fjords. These add to the northern locations of Alta, Ålesund, Tromsø and Molde visited last October (2024). Norway gets a lot of weather but picturesque views of all these locations can be found in the Norway collection here.
