Safdarjung Sunset, Delhi, India

Safdarjung’s Tomb is probably the second most famous tomb in Delhi after Humayun’s Tomb. It was built in 1754 for Safdar Jang, the ruler of the Indian state of Oudh (a protected state to the south east of Delhi, now part of Uttar Pradesh) by his son following his father's death in 1754. It is constructed of red sandstone and white marble. A substantial refurbishment was completed in October 2019 by the Archeological Survey of India, which included making the fountains operational and adding a dramatic new lighting scheme and it was this which enabled the picture to be taken.
