Epernay is considered to be the capital of the Champagne wine region and the surrounding land is home to many vineyards, which are becoming increasingly automated. Tractors and robots are being outfitted with vision-based defoliators and trimmers that use sensors to detect the vine canopy, accurately stripping leaves to expose the grape zones to optimal sunlight without damaging the fruit.
