Map of Tea Routes on a tea shop in Olinda

When the local fruit-growing and timber industries declined in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Olinda changed to tourism. Guesthouses and cozy English-style tea rooms were explicitly built to draw in wealthy Melburnians looking for a refreshing weekend escape. This established a multi-generational tradition of travelling to the Dandenong Ranges specifically for afternoon tea.
